In Memory of Zack
As in human, the natural process of aging in animals in unavoidable, irreversible and sometime painful. Our sweet dog and companion Zack was not spared by it. We had noticed the changes through the past few years with his partial loss of hearing, sight, strength and his sporadic lumping. There were days when the walks were very slow and when the desire to get those paws wet was just not there anymore. Getting up or down the stairs was becoming a tedious task at time but he learned to adjust: when he couldn’t do it, he would bark softly to let us know he needed a lift. It was in February that we learned that his kidneys were failing due to his age. We tried some different food, a bit of medication but the condition was not getting better. We decided then to let nature take its course and let him enjoy whatever time he had. To our surprise though, the deterioration happened very quickly. For the past week, his blood became too acidic and made it hard for his little brain to work properly. The past two days, he started to phase out and we did everything possible to make him comfortable and to assure him of our love. Yesterday, his condition got worse and it was time to make the final decision. On xml:namespace prefix =" st1" ns =" "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"" />

Today, the house is quiet, empty and sad as are our hearts. No more sound of his little paws on the hard wood floors or his little tongue between our toes while typing on the computer. No more cheerful greeting at the door. No more Zack…
