Autumn in Motion Series - Swing

Uinta Mountains, Utah

Limited Edition of 5 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.

This image is part of my series Autumn in Motion. I took these images while sitting in the passenger seat of the car as we drove over the Mirror Lake Highway, Utah on September 15, 2021. The fall colors were just really starting in the aspen trees and I loved the light and colors but we didn't have time to stop, so I decided to shoot from the moving car. The technique used in this style of abstract photography is called Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and is done by moving the camera during the exposure. In this case I panned to the right and up with each exposure trying to match the speed of the car.

As we drove further down the canyon towards the town of Kamas I knew we would be coming to some lodgepole pine forests. I wondered how these trees would look in this ICM technique so I watched closely for a grove of trees I liked and shot swinging the camera hard to the right and up. I had my exposure settings at ISO 100 f/22 and 1/10th sec. I love how this turned out! The strong vertical lines of the pine trees the blur as the world swung by and the bright blue sky really make this abstract piece work.

Vibrant Colors and Clarity!

The Finished print will look different than what you see on your phone or computer screen. Your phone or computer screen does not do justice to the amazing color and depth of these museum grade, fine art prints. When enlarged to sizes of 24x36 or larger these prints really explode in detail and vibrancy. Proper lighting on your prints can be key to how they will look in your home or office. Here is an article Tomas wrote about how to light your photographic art.
