I took this image on February 4, 2017. I had traveled past the old Wauneta Trading Post many times over the years but the light was never right to stop and photograph it. This day I liked the thin clouds and soft light, I decided to stop and see what I could get. After shooting the trading post from various angles, I noticed the old fence and the Kachina Peaks in the distance. I loved the peeling rustic red fence and how it separated the viewer from the distant peaks as if it were a veil between the spirit world of the Kachinas and the world of mortal men. When I edited this image I decided I liked the image black and white leaving the fence in color to show the boundary from the perspective of mortals as we stand ‘behind the veil’.
