I spent two nights in April of 2022 camping at a back country campsite in Kodachrome Basin. It was over a three mile hike in and I didn't see anyone else for two days, it was amazing! My goal on this trip was to photograph the Milky Way Galaxy rising over these spires for which Kodachrome is known. This spire was not far from my camp and I woke at 3:00 am to capture this photograph. I lit the spire with a low level light that I could not see with my naked eye trying to mimic the light of crescent moon. I love how this image turned out! Sometimes I really struggle with what to name my images. I like having creative or even funny names and while looking at this image I thought it looked like a rock monster with its mouth open and pointed to the sky. I am a sci-fi nerd and love the movie Galaxy Quest and Gorignak, the name of the rock monster from that movie hit me. When I suggested it to my wife we both started laughing!
