I took this photograph on October 18, 2017. I was in Las Vegas on business and spent two evenings in The Valley of Fire State Park. This evening was overcast but I love shooting in such conditions because it gives the sky drama and the soft light is wonderful for many shots. I was driving along the main highway looking for views to shoot but the light wasn’t what I wanted yet. Then the sun started coming out of the clouds casting a soft light across the landscape and I knew that was what I wanted. The red rocks glowed in the soft light as I quickly walked over a hill to get a better view of the cliffs. The scene before me was soft and spectacular! I knew I only had moments to get set up and catch this ‘illusive light’ that could vanish any moment. I loved how the light softly lit the bushes causing them to glow gray against the pink sand. I loved how the red rock glowed against the stormy skies. This image was exactly what I was hoping to get on this overcast day.
