Aon Bhàta

Ceann Loch, Scotland

Limited Edition of 10 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.

Just after I photographed Kilfinnan I noticed a small boat approaching the Laggon locks. At this point a boat can enter the lock, the water will rise and then the boat can continue on in the Caledonian Canal which connects all the lochs coast to coast. This way a boat can cross the whole of Scotland from the Irish Sea at Loch Linnhe near Fort William to the North Sea at Inverness in the Beauly Firth. I captured this photograph as the boat approached and I realized it was going to go through the lock, so I quickly walked back down the pier and met up with my wife and we watched the boat enter the lock. It was a beautiful wooden boat and we talked briefly to the man piloting her. I love the clouds going down the middle of this image and glittering water with the line of the mountains and the clouds bringing the eye into the frame. Some images just need to be in black and white and while editing this photograph I decided to convert it to really give it impact. Naming this image was difficult but I finally decided on the Scottish Gaelic term for 'one boat', "Aon Bhàta".
