Balnagown Castle

Kildary, Scotland

Limited Edition of 10 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.

Balnagown is the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan Ross but since the 1970’s has been owned by the Egyptian-born businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed the father of Dodi Al-Fayed who died in the car crash with Diana Princes of Wales in 1997. My third great grandfather was the grieve or overseer for Lord Ross in the 1800’s making this castle a must for me to see. Lodging is available on the grounds in some of the old cottages though not in the castle but we didn't plan an overnight stay. We arrived in the morning and went to the office to ask about getting on the grounds for some photographs. The nice ladies in the office acted like I was a long lost neighbor when I told them my third great grandfather had been the grieve here in the 1800's! They called the head of security and asked if he could show us around which he was more than happy to do. Next time though I am going to stay in the old grieves cottage where my ancestor lived with his family and photograph to my hearts content. The castle was remodeled and restored extensively in the 1970's and really is a wonderful building. I love this photograph and how the deep blue sky makes the pink castle stand out even more, the lines of the car park curb leading the viewer into the image, the green grass and if you look closely the daffodils of early spring.

When enlarged to sizes of 24x36 or larger these prints really explode in detail and vibrancy. Proper lighting on your prints can be key to how they will look in your home or office. Here is an article Tomas wrote about how to light your photographic art.
