Lip Smackin' Good

Salt Lake County, Utah

Limited Edition of 10 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.

Photographing fox can be hard, they are wary, skittish and don't hold still. There are a number of breeding populations of foxes in the Salt Lake Valley, I see them regularly at Wheeler Farm Park and Big Cottonwood Regional Park. The foxes at Big Cottonwood Regional Park are regularly fed by people who think they are doing good. The reality is these people are harming the wild foxes because the habitat can not sustain the population that has grown in the area, the juvenile foxes are not moving on and finding their own habitat and they are inbreeding. These foxes are also losing their fear of people though they do generally stay on the other side of a fence on the private property adjacent to the park. But it does make these foxes easy to photograph. I like to visit these parks first thing in the morning when the no one else is around. On a snowy morning in December I visited Big Cottonwood Regional Park and captured this photograph and others of this and other foxes. I love this photograph as the fox looked straight at me and licked the snow off its muzzle.
