Uinta Light

Uinta Mountains, Utah

Limited Edition of 20 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.

The difference between photography and painting is a painter can make the scene look how they want. A photographer who is true to the art wants to keep the scene true to what they saw. I tend to drift between true photography and digital art but generally I try to capture exactly what I saw.

I found this spot years ago and have returned many times trying to get a photograph I like. Towards the end of September 2025 I drove to the spot knowing the quaking aspen leaves should be perfect. The colors were amazing but the light wasn't very good, it was overcast and not light on the scene. I set up and waited as the clouds moved and the light would touch certain areas but not others. I kept waiting and finally the light hit the peaks in back and the forest in front. I like the image a lot with the long shadows and the cloudy sky. I could have edited the image to make it more dramatic but I try not to do that. I am going to keep trying get the image I envision from this spot because I really want snow on the peaks and a more dramatic sky.
