Limited Edition of 10 Museum Grade, Fine Art Prints.
General Wade was sent to Scotland in 1724 to put down the Jacobite rising, he reported back to King George I that troops could more easily get into the highlands with improved roads and Wade was put in charge of the project building and improving extensive roads and bridges throughout the Highlands. The Old Military Road crosses over the River Nairn at this point and the bridge is still in use by modern traffic. It is a small one way bridge so there is a stop light on each end allowing only one car at a time to pass. We crossed the bridge to see Cawdor Castle and I insisted that on the way back we stop so I could photograph it! I am a history buff, I love the past and what it can teach us. When I visit places like this I can't help but imagine that I have gone back in time and am seeing the sight as it was hundreds of years ago. This photograph feels to me like the water is flowing into the past taking me back to the time of my ancestors. I could almost hear the Red Coats marching along like a scene from the Outlander series. I love the low, warm evening light in this image and the deep blue water. The rich blue sky with the wispy clouds and the stark trees of early spring really make this image jump out. My only regret was that I didn't take my fishing pole as this is one of the best trout rivers in Scotland!
