Seeing the Northern Lights has always been on my bucket list. I had more than one opportunity here in Utah but the timing was wrong. Then I went to Montana to photograph autumn in Glacier National Park. On my first day in the park I heard the Aroura Borealis would be really strong the next night. So I set up on my favorite spot on Lake McDonald and waited for dark. It turned out to be an amazing night.
In this image I pointed my camera almost straight up. I was using my 14 mm wide angle lens which showed most of the sky and some of the trees along the edge of the lake. I took numerous images like this adjusting the view with less and less trees. I like this one best. I purposely like having the trees in the lower left to help show context of where I am and what this is.
